There is just one game left to pick in 2006. For the second-straight season Augusta Christian Schools will play for a SCISA state title.
Last season, Bruce Lane's crew capped off a tremendous season by beating Porter-Gaud to claim the championship. This time around, Hammond stands in Augusta Christian's way.
Hammond is 12-0 and defeated the Lions 21-6 during the regular season. That loss was the only one in South Carolina for Augusta Christian (10-2). Also, Augusta Christian continues to set a standard for their program. This season is the fifth consecutive winning year for the Lions, and it is also the school's 13th-straight playoff appearance.
Keys to a Lion victory
- A big play from the defense or special teams: The Lions will need to get some points with the offense on the sidelines or at least get a turnover deep in Hammond territory to set up an easy score.
- Protect the football: If Bruce Lane's offense does not turn the ball over they can be tough to stop. If the Lions limit their turnovers they will likely get into the end zone a couple of times.
I hope I'm providing some locker room material for the Lions. I would love nothing more than to be proved wrong on this pick, but I am going with Hammond in a close game.
