Editor:
I am overwhelmed at the support shown to my family and me during and following this campaign. I am so proud of all of my volunteers and contributors. I am humbled by it all. Thank you so much for all that you have done for me.
I especially thank state Sen. Jim Whitehead, County Commission Chairman Ron Cross, state Rep. Ben Harbin, Sheriff Clay Whittle, Commissioner Tom Mercer, George Duehring and Brett McGuire for showing their faith in me.
As a newcomer to politics, I wanted to make a positive change in our schools and our county. Some 8,500 of you agreed with my vision of professional, responsible leadership. We may have come up short this time, but I know our message was heard.
If one looks, there is always some good in nearly every situation. Many times from elections, politicians are shown the error of their ways. Sometimes that results in a second chance. Since election night, I have had several long conversations with Regina Buccafusco and also with several of Lee Muns' supporters.
From those discussions, I believe that our best choice for the next chair of the Board of Education is Regina. I am confident that she will avoid the mistakes of the past and bring a new sense of customer service and salesmanship to the board. I am convinced she will work tirelessly in all parts of the county demonstrating her passion for the academic success of each and every child. I agree with her that the students really do come first.
Please join me on Dec. 5 in electing Regina as our School Board chair.
