Augusta Christian advances to round 2

Posted: Wednesday, November 08, 2006

There are only three games to pick this week. So far this season, I stand at 34-6. I hope I can keep the losses to just six after this weekend.

Both Greenbrier and Lakeside closed out their regular seasons last week. Greenbrier finished at 4-6, and Lakeside wound up at 2-8. Harlem and Evans finish their season Friday night, while Augusta Christian will battle in round two of the SCISA playoffs.

Evans (3-6) at Wayne County (1-8)

The Knights have a chance to tie Greenbrier for the best record in the county among public schools. They should be able to get the job done against a Wayne County squad that has managed only one victory all season. However, that win was two weeks ago, and Wayne County is at home.

Prediction: Evans 20, Wayne County 13

Harlem (3-6) at Cross Creek (4-5)

The Bulldogs rolled up 44 points last week versus Butler (their biggest output of the season), while Cross Creek has lost two in a row and three of its last four games. Those losses have come to Thomson, Glenn Hills and Washington County, so Harlem cannot take the Razorbacks lightly.

Prediction: Harlem 14, Cross Creek 13

Augusta Christian (9-2) at Laurence Manning

The Lions came ready to play in round one of the SCISA state playoffs as they pounded Porter Gaud 41-7. The Lions must hit the road this week, but they should be able to advance to round three.

Prediction: Augusta Christian 31, Laurence Manning 17
