Schools awarded

The Columbia County school system received a Blue Seal Certificate of Recognition from the Georgia Department of Education because of 89 percent average daily lunch program participation.

The Blue Seal is the second-highest seal awarded, just under the Gold Seal, which is awarded for 95-100 percent daily participation.

In a letter to school Superintendent John Pierce Blanchard, state school Superintendent John P. Nix acknowledged that it is difficult to keep rates of participation in a school system.

New FHA officers

The Evans High School chapter of the Future Homemakers of America held their installation service Oct. 20.

During the service, new members, chapter mothers and new officers were installed, including Jean Wren, president, and Melody Edwards, vice president.

After the service, the members watched films of the initiation, which took place Sept. 27.

Church event

On Nov. 2, Lake Park Baptist Church will observe its 23rd anniversary.

Families of the church will bring basket dinners to be served in the church social hall, and homecoming for former members will be celebrated.

In addition to the church anniversary being celebrated, Pastor Jack M. Corry will celebrate his 23rd anniversary at the church. Pastor Corry has served since the first day as pastor.

Other staff members are Don Bowden, music director, and Susan Tillman, organist.

Lake Park Baptist Church began with the help of Curtis Baptist Church after the late Sara E. Watkins dedicated her estate for church purposes.
