Riding honors

Sarah Lowe, a member of the varsity hunt seat competition squad for the University of South Carolina, in Columbia, competed in the Varsity Equestrian National Championship in Albuquerque, N.M., in April. USC claimed the National Hunt Seat Championship for the second year in a row. Sarah was high point flat equitation rider for USC. In academics, Lowe was named to the dean's list for fall 2005 and spring 2006, the 2005-06 SEC Honor Roll, and is a recipient of the Athletic Director's Academic Achievement Award for 2005-06. Sarah is a 2003 graduate of Lakeside High School and a senior at USC, majoring in political science.
DAR awards
The College Hill Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, presented the following awards at a luncheon held recently at the Augusta Country Club.
DAR Good Citizen award: medal and $100 U.S. savings bond to David House, outstanding student, athlete, and graduating senior at Augusta Christian High School, son of Mr. and Mrs. Stanley House, of Evans.
Eighth-grade American history essay: pin and $50 U.S. savings bond to Rachel Mura, pupil at Columbia Middle School, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Mura. Rachel's essay also received top honors for eighth-graders in the DAR northeast district of Georgia.
Seventh-grade American History essay: pin and $50 U.S. savings bond to Sara Jefferson, pupil at Lakeside Middle School, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Jefferson, of Martinez.
Charter scholarship
The 2006 freshman class at the University of Georgia includes 236 undergraduates who have been awarded Charter Scholarships by the Office of Undergraduate Admissions.
The 2006 Charter Scholars from Columbia County are:
Michael Baura, of Evans, Greenbrier High School; Nicole Lamb, of Evans, Greenbrier High School; April Ledoux, of Harlem, Harlem High School; Mohan Natrajan, of Martinez, Lakeside High School; and Thomas Norris, of Martinez, Westminster Preparatory School.
Brewton-Parker dean's list
Emily Elizabeth Durham and Ashley Meyer, both of Evans, were named to Brewton-Parker College's dean's list for spring 2006 semester.
GSSU honors
Gregory A. Ryan and Amy A. Udom are local students who have been placed on the president's list for summer semester 2006 at Georgia Southwestern State University.
Leadership grant
Colin P. Quinn, a sophomore at Butler University, has been awarded the General Leadership Grant from the Sigma Chi Foundation. Quinn is one of this year's 46 recipients.
Quinn is the son of Pat and Elaine Quinn, of Evans.
