Hammond is 'consensus-builder,' will take schools 'from good to great'

I am pleased to join many others who have expressed their support of Lawrence Hammond for chairman of the Columbia County School Board.

I know Lawrence. I work with Lawrence. He stands by his principles and is dedicated to excellence in everything he does.

Lawrence Hammond has demonstrated over and over that he has a deep sense of urgency to get things done - today! He will work hard to be responsive to your concerns and to make informed, responsible decisions.

One board member, including the chairman, cannot accomplish anything without the support of other board members. Lawrence is a consensus-builder. He pledges to work as a team player with other board members, elected and appointed officials, community and business leaders, staff and teachers, and parents and students to help the Columbia County school system to go from good to great.

He will face complex issues "head-on" with a collaborative, results-oriented leadership style to finding solutions that make sense.

Lawrence has a solid education, combining strong business skills with analytical and strategic planning abilities. His financial background as a certified public accountant and work experience in the public and private sectors will serve the school system well as it plans for future growth countywide.

When we ask ourselves what we are looking for in our leaders, it really comes down to electing people with character, vision and conviction. It is heartening to see such a bright, informed, and talented person offer himself for public service.
