Columbia County teams face wins, losses

Posted: Wednesday, November 01, 2006

Here are my predictions for prep football winners this week:

Evans (3-5) vs.

Glynn Academy (5-3)

The Knights will have a tough time picking up win No. 4 against a very solid Glynn Academy squad. The Evans defense must create some turnovers, and a big play or two on offense would not hurt.

Prediction:

Glynn Academy 23, Evans 14

Greenbrier (3-6) vs. Wayne County (1-7)

Wayne County picked up its first win of the season last week vs. Lakeside. The Pack are coming off a heartbreaking road loss to Glynn Academy. Greenbrier will have to forget that game if they plan to move to 4-6.

Prediction:

Greenbrier 27, Wayne County 10

Lakeside (2-7) vs. Effingham County (6-2)

The Panthers have been struggling of late scoring only 14 points in their last five games while Effingham County is about as good a 6-2 team as you'll find in Georgia.

Prediction:

Effingham County 34, Lakeside 10

Harlem (2-6)

vs. Butler (0-8)

Harlem has had a rough couple of weeks vs. Washington County and Thomson. On the flip side Butler has had it rough the entire season. Butler has scored in only two games this year, has been outscored 341-44 on the season and 170-0 in their last three games alone.

Prediction:

Harlem 31, Butler 7

Round one

SCISA state playoffs

Augusta Christian (8-2) vs. Porter Gaud (5-5)

The Lions ended the regular season with a loss. They must bounce back if they plan to defend their state title. Also, don't let Porter-Gaud's 5-5 record fool you; Augusta Christian barely got by them in the regular season 20-14

Prediction:

Augusta Christian 24, Porter Gaud 13
