The second annual holiday fashion show extravaganza held by the Beta Omicron chapter of the international nursing honor society, Sigma Theta Tau, will be held Saturday at West Lake Country Club.
Jennifer Edmunds, a graduate of the master's program at the Medical College of Georgia and a registered nurse in the trauma intensive care unit at MCG, said the event will help fund a nursing scholarship. The exact amount of that scholarship will be determined by the money earned during the fundraiser.
"Last year, we began brainstorming ideas of something to do to be fun and make money," said Edmunds, a member of the honor society. "We decided to do a fashion show and give a scholarship each spring to a local nursing student who is a member of Beta Omicron."
Beta Omicron is the local chapter of Sigma Theta Tau. Last year, Beta Omicron awarded a $1,500 scholarship.
In addition to the clothing, which is on loan from Dillard's in the Augusta Mall, the fashion show will feature wearable art and accessories made by area artisans, who will have display tables where their handicrafts will be sold. A makeup vendor also will be at the show, whose host will be Kimberly Scott of television station WJBF (Channel 6).
"The scholarships are to fund local nurses to go to the national Sigma Theta Tau conference, which is held yearly," Edmunds said.
Tickets cost $30, can be obtained from Edmunds at (706) 267-4443. The show, to last from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., will feature giveaways, including gift certificates from businesses, and perfume and makeup samples from Dillard's.
