Editor:
I urge all voters of Columbia County to vote for the upcoming bond issue on Nov. 7.
Columbia County is a great place to live. We have some of the best schools in Georgia. We have safe neighborhoods. We have good restaurants. We have some wonderful parks and recreational areas.
Compared to our neighbors in Richmond County, we have a very enviable state of affairs. Our county government has a balanced budget. We are one of only four counties in Georgia to have one of the best credit ratings, AA, on our municipal bonds. We have a beautiful new library, and for the first time we have 24/7 fire department coverage in many rural areas of our county.
Since our county is growing, we need to invest in some infrastructure. New roads are needed, new water and sewer lines, and new parks. Who doesn't want a new park nearby for their kids to play in? Who doesn't want some new roads to relieve some of the congestion when we come home from work in the afternoons?
I don't see this as a Grovetown and Harlem issue vs. Columbia County; we will all benefit equally from the infrastructure improvements. Indeed, many of the proposed infrastructure improvements, such as water and sewer lines, are in Grovetown and Harlem.
Columbia County is already a great place to live. With the passage of this bond issue, it will become an even better place to live.
