Church welcomes comedian

When Premier Productions contacted West Acres Baptist Church in Evans about playing host to Christian comedian Mark Lowry in concert Thursday, the church jumped at the chance.

"Premier Productions contacted our worship ministry about hosting the tour in the Augusta area because of the size - 1,750 seating - and 'concert-friendly' scale of our worship facility," said Chris Norris, the minister of music at West Acres.

Christian comedians, including Chonda Pierce, Dennis Swanberg and Tim Hawkins, have performed at West Acres to great success.

"Also, this Mark Lowry tour was at West Acres a couple of years ago. We enjoyed the concert and knew it was something we would gladly do again," Norris said. "The music and comedy of Mark Lowry, coupled with the tight vocal harmonies of LordSong and the phenomenal piano skills of Stan Whitmire, makes for a fabulous evening of inspirational family entertainment. It is a great match for our church and our community."

Lowry has spent the past 25 years on the road traveling full-time and recording six comedy and music videos.

Doors for the concert open at 6 p.m. Thursday, with the concert beginning at 7 p.m. All seating is general admission, with tickets ranging from $14.50 for children to $16.50 for advance adult tickets. Group rates are available, as are senior and family four-pack specials.

Tickets can been ordered online via Premier Productions at www.PremierProductions.com or by calling (800) 965-9324. To order tickets, send a check to Premier Productions, Attn: Mark Lowry Concert, to 105 Palmer Court, Evans, GA 30809. Be sure to enclose a $3 handling fee. The church office and select area Christian bookstores also have tickets for sale.

"There's something for everyone at an event hosted by Mark Lowry," stated Gary Gentry, the president of Premier Productions, in a news release about the concert. "It's an event the entire family can enjoy. Obviously, the music is Christian-based, but there's a lot of variety."

Norris said any proceeds the church gets from the concert will be used for West Acres' upcoming Broadway-style Christmas musical, Two from Galilee. That production will be staged Dec. 16 and 17.
