High-scoring opponents too much for our teams

Posted: Wednesday, October 18, 2006

I'm coming off a 4-1 week, with Harlem's win over Glenn Hills my lone miscue. That brings my total to 26-4 for the season.

This week, several of our teams are facing opponents that are red hot - especially on the offensive side of the ball. Evans, Harlem and Greenbrier all face opponents who are among the state's highest-scoring teams during the past few weeks.

Evans (3-3) vs. Brunswick (4-2)

Brunswick is averaging 45.6 points per game in their past three contests. The Knights need a win to get over .500, but this week will be tough.

Prediction:

Brunswick 33, Evans 10

Greenbrier (3-4) vs. Ware County (4-2)

The Gators are piling up the points lately, too. They have outscored their opponents 81-0 in their past two games. Greenbrier will provide a stiffer test, but Ware County should prevail.

Prediction:

Ware County 34, Greenbrier 20

Harlem (2-4) at Washington County (4-2)

Harlem is coming off a nice win over Glenn Hills, but Washington County is a notch above the Spartans (more like several notches). Washington County is averaging 49 points per game in its past three wins.

Prediction:

Washington County 37, Harlem 10

Lakeside (2-5) vs. Glynn Academy (3-3)

If there is a better 3-3 team in Georgia, I'd like to see it. Glynn's three losses have come to Statesboro (7-3), Brunswick (7-0), and Ware County (21-14). They handed Effingham County their first loss last week and should have no trouble in this one.

Prediction:

Glynn Academy 27, Lakeside 6

Augusta Christian (7-1) vs. Heathwood Hall

(3-5)

The Lions will be tested this week, but they should pass the test. Augusta Christian looks like they are getting hot just at the right time.

Prediction:

Augusta Christian 20, Heathwood Hall 16
