Homecoming festivities at Augusta Prep lasted all day long Saturday, with every fall sports team participating in at least one event.
For the Augusta Prep boys soccer team, that one game was one of the most important matches in the regular season.
The Cavaliers knocked off region rival John Milledge Academy 9-1. Madison Harte scored two goals in the contest while Ryan Goff, Chris Prescott, Griffen Eubanks, Alex Levy and Phillip Tuten also scored. The win improved the Cavaliers' overall record to 11-6 but, more important, gave Augusta Prep a guaranteed home game in the first round of the GISA Class AAA state tournament.
That state tournament game, scheduled for Tuesday, was more than a week away as the Cavaliers celebrated with a homecoming crowd after the region win on Saturday.
"It couldn't have been any nicer," Augusta Prep soccer coach Forrest Wimberly said. "Homecoming, region game, a home playoff game on the line and our young guys turned up today. We only had one goal by a senior."
Also in action on Saturday, the Augusta Prep volleyball team continued their winning ways during the Boardman Athletic Centers' first homecoming.
The Lady Cavaliers defeated Alleluia 25-11, 22-25, 25-12 and 25-12 then knocked off Providence Christian 25-14, 25-13, 25-11.
The two wins improved Augusta Prep's volleyball record to 13-2 overall.
