Two go-karts stolen from Funsville found
Two go-karts were recovered early Monday morning after being stolen from Funsville.
Police responded to Sudan and Tower drives just before 3 a.m. Monday after a security guard for a Sudan Drive trucking company reported suspicious activity. The security guard told police he saw two teens riding go-karts in the area just before 2 a.m. He told police he heard a loud boom at Funsville, at 4350 Wheeler Road in Martinez, followed by the sound of the karts.
While the deputy was talking with the security guard, the go-karts pulled into the parking area, then the drivers ran away. Sheriff's office dogs were unable to locate the thieves.
Funsville's general manager recovered the karts, which had sustained moderate damage.
TV set is shoplifted from Evans Wal-Mart
The manager of the Evans Wal-Mart store told police Sunday that a man snatched a large television and ran out of the store.
The manager said that at about 4 a.m., he saw a man grab a 26-inch LCD television from the shelf in the electronics department. The man dashed out an emergency exit in the back of the store between electronics and the photo lab.
The manager said he saw the man jump into a dark four-door car, possibly a Toyota Camry, with only one headlight. The car, which the manager said also had three other people inside, headed west on Washington Road.
Center's credit card is used fraudulently
The executive director of an Evans religious center told police Friday that someone used a center credit card for personal gain.
The director of the Augusta Jewish Community Center on Weinberger Way said a man who had permission to use the card for center business spent more than $9,000 on personal expenses between May 31 and June 21.
The director said the man was aware the card was to be used for only center business. Police were unable to contact the man.
