Tough schedule should help 'Pack at playoff time

Greenbrier has built quite a reputation in fast-pitch softball throughout Georgia. Garrett Black's squad claimed the 2004 state title and has dominated the region for the past 10 years.

Once again, the Lady Wolfpack has a solid group this season. They stand at 12-4 and are ranked No. 3 in the AAAA rankings. Do not be too alarmed by the four losses.

Greenbrier has played a brutally tough schedule. If you take a closer look at its four losses, it is easy to see that Black is trying to prepare his team for the playoffs.

Here is a look at the four teams to have beaten Greenbrier this season:

- Lakeview-Fort Ogelthorpe (14-0) ranked No. 1 in AAAA

- Collins Hill (9-3) ranked No. 5 in AAAAA

- Oconee County (12-2) ranked No. 3 in AAA

- Woodstock (13-2) ranked No. 1 in AAAAA

The 'Pack has been impressive in the 12 victories.

They have outscored opponents 96-15 in those wins. That means they are yielding an average of only 1.25 runs per game in the wins, including five shutouts.

There is no doubt this tough schedule will prepare the 'Pack for the stringent test the playoffs will offer.
