Evans and Harlem are predicted to win games

Posted: Wednesday, September 13, 2006

It is "pat myself on the back" time. Last week, I went 3-0 on my picks. Not only did I pick the winners, but check out how close the final scores actually were:

Lincoln Co. vs. Harlem

Prediction: Lincoln Co. wins 34-14.

Actual score: Lincoln Co. wins 35-14

Greenbrier at Lakeside

Prediction: Greenbrier wins 27-13

Actual score: Greenbrier wins 36-12

Augusta Christian vs. Pinewood

Prediction: Augusta Christians wins 31-7

Actual score: Augusta Christian wins 28-7

NEXT WEEK'S PICKS

After last week, we stand at 7-1 for our picks for the season. But that's enough bragging. Time now for our picks for this week.

Evans (1-0) at Lakeside (1-1)

The Knights had a week off to prepare for this big rivalry game. Evans played well in their opening win over Harlem and seem to be much improved from a year ago. Lakeside has to go back to the drawing board after taking one on the chin in a 36-12 loss to Greenbrier. Lakeside will have a tough time scoring on a pretty solid Knights defense. If the Panthers are going to pull the upset they will have to force the Knights into turnovers.

Prediction:

Evans 27 Lakeside 10

Greenbrier (1-1) at Effingham County (2-0)

Greenbrier is coming off a big win over county rival Lakeside, but the test will be much tougher this week when they travel to Effingham County. Nick Richards and the 'Pack offense will need to have a monster game for Greenbrier to have a shot. Effingham has outscored its two opponents 89-9 this season and appear to be one of the top teams in AAAA. If the 'Pack have the slightest miscues it could be a long night for Greenbrier.

Prediction:

Effingham County 34 Greenbrier 17

Harlem (0-2) vs. Aquinas (0-2)

Although both teams are 0-2, Harlem has had the much tougher road so far. Harlem has faced defending Class A state champion Lincoln County and Class AAAA Evans. So the 0-2 mark could be slightly misleading. The Bulldogs will pile up yardage on the ground en route to a win in this one.

Prediction:

Harlem 31, Aquinas 13

Augusta Christian (2-1) at Fox Creek (1-2)

The Lions bounced back after a demoralizing loss to North Carolina power Charlotte Latin with a solid win over Pinewood Prep last week and remain No. 1 in the SCISA rankings. Fox Creek did post a win earlier this season, but they have not faced a team with Augusta Christian's talent. This should be an easy one for the Lions.

Prediction:

Augusta Christian 41, Fox Creek 7
