Week will see heated matchups

Here are my picks for the victors in this week's football action:

Harlem at Lincoln County

The Bulldogs will obviously have their hands full with the 2005 Class A state champions. Lincoln County is led by quarterback Brandon Barden, who has committed to Virginia Tech, and speedy running back Darrell Norman, who has several college offers of his own. Harlem will need to play flawless football and get some breaks to keep this one close.

Lincoln County 34, Harlem 14

Greenbrier at Lakeside

This has become a very heated rivalry game. After several consecutive years of extremely close contests between the two schools, Greenbrier shut out the Panthers 25-0 a year ago. I'm sure Lakeside would love to return the favor this time around. The Panthers will need to harass Greenbrier quarterback Nick Richards and limit their turnovers to steal this one.

Greenbrier 27, Lakeside 13

Augusta Christian vs. Pinewood Prep

Pinewood only returns four starters on both sides of the ball this season and appears to be overmatched versus ACS. The Lions should be able to pick up a convincing win here. However, they will need to contain speedy tailback Miles Reeves and a good young prospect in Moses Richardson to get the victory.

ACS 31, Pinewood 7

Evans has the week off.
