Lakeside 20, Aquinas 12

Lakeside's season opener at Aquinas saw a new tailback take over the Panthers spotlight. Junior Patrick Tynan rushed for 85 yards on 13 carries, including a 9-yard touchdown run in an eight-point Lakeside win. The Panthers shutout Aquinas in the first half, and Lakeside place kicker Dmitri Pelaez hit two field goals from 26- and 21-yards out.

Greenbrier 14, Westside 47

Greenbrier coach Scott Chadwick's first game at the Wolfpack helm was a forgettable one. Starting quarterback Nick Richards threw five interceptions that led to 28 Westside points and the Wolfpack ground game rushed for negative yardage. Richards did connect with Tyrone Bonds for a 34-yard touchdown pass for the game's first score and senior Freddie Jones took a Westside kickoff 95 yards for a touchdown.

Augusta Christian 11, Charlotte-Latin 56

The battle of the independent school champions didn't last long in Charlotte, N.C., as defending NCISAA state champion Charlotte-Latin scored the first three touchdowns of the game and limited the Lions to their lowest point total since the 2004 season. Tailback Kyle Meeks scored the lone Lions touchdown on a 27-yard run in the fourth quarter, while the Augusta Christian defense forced two safeties.
