Knights edge Dogs
The Evans High Knights held off the Bulldogs of Harlem High 7-6, in a closely contested game before a large crowd in the new Evans High stadium Friday night.
After a scoreless first quarter, the Bulldogs took advantage of an Evans fumble on the Knights' 21-yard line. Running back Ricky Harris carried the ball to the six. Two plays later, Harlem back Jerome Gilyard took it in for the only points Harlem would score. Ricky Lane missed the extra point attempt.
On the ensuing kickoff, Guy Ball ran the ball out to the Evans 41-yard line. A few plays later and after a Harlem penalty, the Knights had the ball on the Harlem 27. With the down at third and five for a first down, Frank Norman took the ball around right end and out-raced his nearest challenger to the end zone. Judson Luke made the extra point to put the Knights ahead for the win.
Tap fees refunded
The Columbia County Water Works Department will soon begin refunding water tap fees to its residential and commercial customers, providing the deposit has been held for two years and the customer's account is in good standing.
