First Mount Carmel Baptist Church, in Winfield, will celebrate Pastor Appreciation Day at 10 a.m. today in recognition of the 18th anniversary of the Rev. Roscoe Perry. Guest minister for the celebration will be the Rev. Martris Mims, pastor of Thankful Baptist Church in Blythe.
Fair pageant seeks contestants
Contestants are being sought for the 2006 Miss Columbia County Fair Scholarship Pageant to be held Sept. 30 at Evans High School. The pageant, sponsored by the Merchants Association of Columbia County, is for single young women ages 17-24 and includes competition in evening gown, swimsuit, sportswear and interview categories. Marvin UMC has preschool slots

Bonhoeffer seminar
Augusta's First Baptist Church will hold a series of discussions about the life and legacy of the late theologian Dietrich Bonhoeffer, who was one of the first voices of resistance to Adolf Hitler. The event will include discussions, a movie and a dramatic performance, and will be held Wednesday and Sept. 10, 13, 20 and 24.
