Game for fans to be Saturday

Posted: Wednesday, August 30, 2006

As the Augusta GreenJackets baseball team prepares to close its 2006 season, Columbia County fans are expected to swell the stadium Saturday for Fan Appreciation Night.

With the Columbia County Chamber of Commerce as a partner, Saturday's event includes lots of Columbia County-related giveaways during the game and honors for county athletes before the game, group sales account executive Janssen Pollard said.

In addition to pregame recognition for championship baseball squads from Greenbrier High School, Augusta Christian Schools and the Columbia County Recreation Department, the festivities include an announcement of a baseball and education partnership between GreenJackets owner Ripken Baseball Group and Columbia County, chamber Director Gordon Renshaw said.

After the pregame announcements and the national anthem by Columbia County's Children's Musical Theatre Workshop, the game gets under way at 7:05 p.m. at Lake Olmstead Stadium.

Tickets for the game with the Asheville (N.C.) Tourists are available at the Lake Olmstead Stadium box office during business hours, by telephone at (706) 736-7889 or at www.tixonline.com.

General admission tickets cost $6 for adults, $5 for senior citizens, military and children, and $1 for ages 3 and under. Reserved seating tickets are $7.

The final GreenJackets games will be Sunday and Monday.
