Evans resident gets medal, graduates

Kai-Cheng Ho, of Evans, graduated from Avon Old Farms School in Avon, Conn., at commencement ceremonies May 28. Kai-Cheng received a Founder's Medal at the ceremony, which honors young men who have served the school with distinction throughout their scholarly careers at Avon.
Area residents graduate Mercer
The following have graduated from Mercer University at commencement exercises May 13: Amy E. Kenney, of Martinez, and Andrew Scott Bigham, of Martinez.
Saint Leo University student graduates
Marvin Lakeith Philslips, of Grovetown, graduated from Saint Leo University with an associate of arts degree in liberal arts at the university's Savannah Center commencement ceremonies June 10.
Gupta graduates from Harvard Law
Alpana Gupta, of Evans, graduated from Harvard Law School on June 8. Alpana is the daughter of Narendra & Shashi Gupta, of Evans. Alpana graduated from Lakeside High in 1997 as a National Merit Scholar. She graduated magna cum laude from Vanderbilt University in English Literature in 2001. Gupta will be working at the law firm of Ashe, Rafuse and Hill in Atlanta.
Clemson University spring Dean's List
The following students who had outstanding academic accomplishments during the spring semester were named to the Dean's List at Clemson University: Matthew Duffin, of Evans, mechanical engineering; Kyle L. Layman, of Martinez, biological sciences.
Valdosta State University graduate
Lindsey Guobaitis has graduated with a master's degree in speech pathology from Valdosta State University. She is a 2000 graduate of Evans High School and received her undergraduate degree from the University of Georgia. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Vince Guobaitis, of Martinez.
Dean's List named at Gardner Webb
Gardner Webb University has named the following area students to the Dean's List of the spring semester: Tyler M. Hayden, of Evans, whose major is undecided; and Lindsey A. Sutherland, of Evans, whose major is communication studies.
Four seek degrees on military bases
Southern Illinois University Carbondale's spring undergraduate degree candidates studying on military bases are: Christine Renee Shedrick, of Evans, bachelor of science in health care management; Robert Bryon Holman, of Grovetown, bachelor of science in electronic systems technologies; Christopher Scott Whitney, of Martinez, bachelor of science in electronic systems technologies; Benjamin A. Williams, of Martinez, bachelor of science in work force education and development.
