Bicyclist reports gun-pointing incident
A Martinez man told police that a man pointed a gun at him during an argument.
The man said he was riding his bicycle about noon Saturday near Rinker Materials Dogwood Quarry, 5868 Columbia Road in Appling, when a green truck pulled out in front of him. The bicyclist said he gave the truck driver a hand gesture and the truck driver pulled over and an argument ensued, the report stated.
The bicyclist told police that the driver of the truck pointed a handgun at him before leaving.
Woman sends money overseas in check scam
A Grovetown woman called police Friday to report a forged cashiers check she received in the mail along with an offer to make more than $60,000.
The 40-year-old woman told police she received the check Aug. 22. On Friday, she called the number listed on the letter. A woman who identified herself as Sarah Dillon told the woman to cash the check and fill out a Western Union form to send $1,795 to a man in Italy. Dillon then told her to send a second wire transfer for $1,699 to a woman in Italy.
Dillon told her after the two transactions were complete that the resident would receive a $62,500 check from International Sweepstakes Federation. The woman said she contacted the bank listed on the check, who verified the check was a counterfeit.
Evans woman reports extensive damage to car
An Evans woman reported extensive damage to her car Thursday.
The 30-year-old woman said someone caused extensive damage to her Chrysler Sebring between 8 p.m. Aug. 23 and 7 a.m. Thursday.
A deputy saw a shattered passenger window, four flat tires, slash marks on the front and back seats, several hit marks and dents on the vehicle and what appeared to be a candy bar stuck near the gas tank.
Woman driving SUV hits pedestrian with mirror
A Martinez man told deputies Aug. 23 that he was nearly run over by a vehicle in the parking lot of a sports bar.
The 29-year-old man said he was walking through the lot of Dudley's Dawg House, 4020 Washington Road, just after 8 p.m. when a burgundy sport utility vehicle struck his left arm with the driver's side mirror as it passed him. The SUV did not stop, so the man ran after it.
The victim said the female driver asked him what his problem was and said, "I know who you are and I will get you at 10 o'clock." The man said the driver turned around and aimed the SUV at him, swerving five feet from him.
