The Wolfpack in brief

Posted: Wednesday, August 23, 2006

Head coach: Scott Chadwick (first season)

Classification: 3B-AAAA

Stadium: The Brierpatch

Colors: Dark green and gold

2005 record: 4-6

2005 highlight: Greenbrier pounded rival Lakeside 25-0 at home. Senior tailback Reggie Rice scored three touchdowns on the night and rushed for 214 yards on 24 carries.

Last trip to postseason: 2003

Last region title: None

Breakout season: Junior quarterback Nick Richards waited in the wings last year behind senior signal caller Sean Gray. Gray has graduated and new coach Scott Chadwick said his offense won't hesitate to put the ball in the air this year. The stage is set for Richards to make a name for himself in the region.

Player to watch: Dylan Turner started every game for the Wolfpack last year as a freshman. This season, he'll most likely go both ways as the starting tight end and defensive tackle.

Strength: The system Chadwick brings to Greenbrier has won him two state championships already. The new coach said after only a few practices together he could tell his players were smart enough not only to run the offense but to pick it up quickly.

Weakness: The big question for Greenbrier this season comes on defense. Last year's leader, linebacker Erik Smith, has moved on to college ball and a definite replacement has yet to show himself. The Wolfpack shouldn't have any trouble finding the end zone, but a young defense could translate into several high-scoring shootouts.
