Lakeside panthers

Head coach: Randy Hill (fifth season)

Classification: 3B-AAAA

Stadium: Panther Stadium

Colors: Maroon, black, silver and white

2005 record: 3-7

2005 highlight: The Panthers began the 2005 season winning two of their first three games including a last-minute victory at Westside and a 12-0 shutout over Effingham County.

Last trip to postseason: 1999

Last region title: None

Breakout season: In the limited action he saw last year, tailback Jamel Holmes averaged four yards per carry. Now as a senior, he's the Panthers' leading returning rusher and, along with teammate John Arena, is set to own the backfield this year.

Player to watch: Hill singled out junior defensive back Patrick Tynan as a player with potential heading into the season opener. He was one of the many stars on the junior varsity squad and now has a wide-open opportunity to shine at the varsity level.

Strength: Speed, speed and more speed. The Lakeside coaching staff found out quickly during a speed camp in June and summer workouts: Underclassmen can be just as fast as the older boys.

Weakness: Along with youth comes inexperience.
