The Knights in brief

Posted: Wednesday, August 23, 2006

Head coach: Marty Jackson (fourth season)

Classification: 3B-AAAA

Stadium: Blanchard Stadium

Colors: Black and gold

2005 record: 1-9

2005 Highlight: Evans' only win, an 8-7 victory at Lakeside, came on a last-minute play that shocked the home Panther crowd.

Last trip to postseason: 2004

Last region title: 1987

Breakout season: Junior quarterback Kevin Millward led the Evans offense last year, but the Knights' 1-9 mark left little to brag about. With more experienced (and taller) wide receivers this year and some added confidence and strength, Millward could earn state recognition in 2006 - and not as a punter.

Player to watch: Senior Wes Wuchte will become the Knights' starting tight end this year. Jackson said that with a 6-foot-7-inch, 234-pound basketball player lining up, the tight end position will be more directly involved with the offense this year.

Strength: The sheer height of Evans' wide receivers will cause problems for opposing secondaries. The fact that they've now got a year's worth of experience is even more impressive.

Weakness: It wouldn't take many injuries to cripple the Knights, with their lack of depth on the line.
