TRW to build new plant in Evans
The Committee of 100 division of the Greater Augusta Chamber of Commerce, in conjunction with TRW Inc., announced that the Chicago-Latrobe plant of the United Greenfield Division of TRW Inc., will transfer its high-speed cutting tool operations from Chicago to a new multimillion-dollar facility to be built on 50 acres of land in Evans.
The new 250,000-square-foot plant will be located in Columbia County fronting on Old Evans Road, in a new 400- acre industrial park known as Columbia Commerce Park. Groundbreaking will take place this fall, with completion in the fall of 1974.
CSRA Classic held
The First annual CSRA Classic is being held Aug. 13-19, 1973, at the Grovetown Recreation Center. The tournament is co-sponsored by the Grovetown Girls Softball League and the county Recreation Department.
Recreation T-ball finishes first year
The Columbia County Recreation Department has completed its first year of T-ball.
The Western League champions are from Appling, sponsored by Fox Candy Co. George Brown is head coach. Players are Trevon McDaniel, Willard Cartledge, Eddie Brown, Jay Pearson, Eddie Sanderlin, Michael Turner, John Pearson, Paul Brown, Ramsey Harris and Kelvin Green.
The Eastern League champions, from South Columbia, are sponsored by Harold's Shake and Burger. Horst Drewes is head coach. Players are Chuck Berry, Grady Fuller, Doug Patterson, Wayne Duncan, Gerald Scara, David Drewes, Jeff Dowdle, Randall Eason, George Berry, Peter Schoberg, James Gunby and Michael Garrett.
