Columbia County's inaugural Anamania Pet Fair will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 26 at the amphitheater and memorial gardens, behind the Columbia County Library. The family- and pet-oriented event will feature contests, demonstrations, the "Mutt Strut" dog parade, pet-related vendors and services and entertainment. A pet/owner lookalike contest also will be held; contestants must send a photo and contact information by Aug. 21 to Brooke Willis at Columbia County Community and Leisure Services, 620 Ronald Reagan Drive, Evans, GA 30809. Crafters sought

School councils
Lakeside Middle School will hold an election for a parent to serve on the 2006-07 school council from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday. The council will meet Aug. 28, Nov. 14, Jan. 20 and April 10 at 1:30 p.m. in the media center conference room.
The Greenbrier Elementary school council will meet 2 p.m. in the conference center on Aug. 22, Oct. 17 and Dec. 12. For information, call (706) 650-6060.
The South Columbia Elementary School Council will meet in the media center at 7:15 a.m. on Aug. 22, Oct. 17, Jan. 16, March 20 and May 15, and at 8:45 a.m. June 19.
Church open house
Bible Cathedral, at 1116 Furys Ferry Road, Evans, will hold an open house from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, with free dinner and games. Registration for Awana Club will be available for children ages 3 years to fifth grade. Middle- and high-school youth groups also will kick off at this event.
