Deputies break up gang fight
On July 12 at approx-imately 6:30 p.m., Sheriff Tom Whitfield broke up a "gang fight" of about 50 people at the overlook at Clarks Hill Dam. The fight occurred between the Pagans motorcycle club and a "bunch of local boys," Whitfield said.
Residents Chris Conner, Vic Partridge, Richard Owens were injured , but no members of the motorcycle club were hurt.
No charges were filed, but a closed meeting between the two parties was held on July 16, which ended in a peaceful settlement between the two parties.
As a result of the incident, Whitfield plans to ask the Board of Commissioners of Columbia County to pass an ordinance to prohibit the consumption of alcohol in the parking lots and within 50 feet of the parking lots at Clarks Hill under Columbia County jurisdiction.
