Country crooners coming

Songwriters will talk, perform in concert

Posted: Wednesday, July 26, 2006

Country music writers will be coming to Columbia County on Friday.

Instead of writing, though, they will be performing at the county's Performing Arts Theatre for An Evening in the Round, starting at 7:30 p.m.

Acts include:

- Wynn Varble, who co-wrote the No. 1 hit song Have You Forgotten, which was co-written and sung by Darryl Worley.

- Don Sampson, who wrote Midnight in Montgomery for Alan Jackson, Tough Little Boys for Gary Allen, and I Love You This Much for Jimmy Wayne.

- Monty Holmes, who wrote various songs for George Strait, What I Do the Best for John Michael Montgomery and Never Again, Again for Lee Ann Womack.

County Community Events manager Stacie Adkins said the concert will have an "intimate setting," with songs performed acoustically and the writers discussing how they were written.

"If people come to support the concert, we can do two or three concerts like this per year," Adkins said. "We need the public."

Those planning to attend are urged to get their tickets soon because the performing arts theater is limited to 296 seats.

General admission costs $10, and tickets are available at the Community Events Department at 630 Ronald Reagan Drive.
