County commissioners should 'please think, pray' before voting to allow alcoholic beverages in parks

Posted: Sunday, July 16, 2006

(Regarding the story that Columbia County park officials are asking that alcohol be allowed to be served at events, with hopes of increased revenue): Whoa! This is unbelievable!

Do county commissioners not yet know it will cost us more in the long run, plus putting our children in danger? Deputies have to be paid.

To have alcohol sold at places of family gatherings with mostly children is asking for more trouble. You say, "they can't buy it." I say, how do you think all the children arrested in schools got the drugs? Alcohol is a drug.

Please don't mess up the only good thing left for our children. After all, they will be the leaders of tomorrow. We as parents will also have to answer for our actions. God gave children parents to help keep them safe. Our children are much more precious than a few dollars.

I have been in this county for 50 years, and have seen many good things happen. I have also seen some bad choices, and this could be one of them.

To the county commissioners, please think and pray before you vote on this issue on Tuesday. Vote no.
