Last event of season will be held Saturday

Jams and jellies, arts and crafts, plants and produce.

All that and more will be available at the third Saturday Farmer's Market this weekend.

The farmer's market - the last of a series of three and the last of the season - will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday on the lawn of the Columbia County Memorial Garden behind the new library on Ronald Reagan Drive in Evans.

"It's just continuing to grow," said Brooke Willis, a county community events specialist. She said she expects about 23 vendor booths to be set up and 450 to 500 people to attend.

Willis said the first farmer's market, held in conjunction with the Arts in the Park Festival in May, attracted about 700 people to the 25 vendor booths.

"The second one had a pretty strong attendance, a diverse attendance," Willis said of the June farmer's market, which attracted about 400 people and 20 vendors.

"We had more plant people, and we're expecting to have more produce for this last one."

Concessions will be available at the market in addition to produce.

Willis said arts and craft vendors and anyone licensed through the state Department of Agriculture to sell plants or produce are welcome to set up a booth and sell their wares at the market.

For more information or for a vendor application call Willis at (706) 312-7194.

Some artists who attended the first event returned to the second and plan to be back selling their works at the final market.

"We'll do it again next year," Willis said of the farmer's market. "We're thinking about starting it earlier in theyear like at the end of March or the beginning of April."

"We've got a lot of good feedback from this, and people want to see it more regularly."
