Area Independence Day activities aren't over yet.
Lincoln and McCormick counties are teaming up to hold the fifth annual Thunder Over Thurmond Independence Day Celebration.
The celebration will consist of several events, including the Thunder Cup Softball Tournament to be held Thursday at the West Town Recreation Complex in McCormick.
"There is actually a trophy - Thunder Cup - that the teams play for," said Ginger Parham, an administrator for the Lincolnton-Lincoln County Chamber of Commerce. "Whichever team wins, that is who keeps the trophy for the year."
Parham said the unique aspect of the tournament is that it comprises only county employees.
The tournament will begin at 7 p.m. with a $1 admission price. All proceeds will benefit the McCormick County Recreation Department.
A Cruise-In On Main will take place in downtown Lincolnton on Saturday.
Parham said the event is open to antique vehicles, classic cars and motorcycles. Registration will be held on the day of the event, at 10:30 a.m., and will cost $10 per automobile.
The cruise in officially begins at 11 a.m. and will end at 2 p.m.
Both of these events lead up to the Fireworks Extravaganza on Saturday evening. Premiere Pyrotech-nics Inc. will light up the sky over Thurmond Lake with a 20-minute show.
Clear Channel Radio's 105.7 FM will provide a live remote broadcast.
Recommended viewing locations for the fireworks display are Elijah Clark State Park, Savannah Lakes Resort & Marina, Soap Creek Marina & Restaurant, Hickory Knob State Park, Plum Branch Yacht Club and by boat.
Fireworks will fly starting at 9:30 p.m. For more information about the fifth annual Thunder Over Thurmond Independence Day Celebration, contact Parham (706) 359-7970.
