Expanded library hours
The Columbia County Library in Evans is increasing its hours of operation during the remainder of the summer. Until Aug. 3, the library will be open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays and from 2-5 p.m. Sundays.
Liberty on the Lake fireworks
The 2006 Liberty on the Lake Freedom Fireworks Spectacular will begin at 3 p.m. Monday at Little River Marina at Clarks Hill Lake, off Washington Road in Leah. The event will include family games, patriotic and Christian music, food vendors and a fireworks display at about 9:30 p.m. Patrons should bring blankets and chairs; coolers and alcoholic beverages are prohibited. Admission costs $3 per adult, $2 per child.
Gardening at lunch

John George, director of the music ministry of St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church, will perform a free concert of Bach organ works on the church's new organ at 2 p.m. July 9 at the church, located at 4291 Columbia Road. Refreshments will be provided after the concert.
Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3200 will hold an Independence Day barbecue from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. today, Monday and Tuesday at the post, 2901 Gun Club Road, Augusta, with takeout available. Call (706) 736-9046.
