National Honor Student award winner

The United States Achievement Academy has announced that Brendon Phillips, of Martinez, has been recognized for academic achievement as a United States National Honor Student award winner. Phillips, who attends Columbia Middle School, will appear in the United States Achievement Academy's Official Yearbook, which is published nationally. Phillips is the son of Jerry and Lisa Phillips, of Martinez. His grandparents are Frank and Dinah Harmstead, of Augusta, and Jerry and Frankie Phillips, of Lincolnton.
Furman University Who's Who
Jennifer A. Walters, of Martinez and a Furman University student, has been selected for inclusion in the 2006 edition of Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges. She is the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Gordon Walters, of Martinez.
Student graduates from law school
Mississippi College School of Law in Jackson, Miss., has announced that Bryan Sinclair Hawkins, of Evans, has recently graduated with a Juris Doctorate in May. Hawkins is the son of Dr. David W. Hawkins, of Savannah, and Dr. Sandra J. Black, of Evans, and is married to Michelle Hawkins. He is a graduate of Evans High School and the University of Georgia. Hawkins has accepted an invitation to join the law firm of Gardner, Willis, Sweat & Handelman, LLP in Albany.
During his three years of law school, Hawkins was the recipient of the American Jurisprudence Award for Trial Advocacy; finished in the final four of the Copeland, Cook, Taylor & Bush Moot Court Competition; and served as the president of the Federalist Society and the vice chairman of the Moot Court Board.
Washington and Lee University dean's list
David Meyer Shay, a senior at Washington and Lee University, has earned dean's list status for the recently ended winter term. To qualify for the dean's list, students must achieve a grade average of at least 3.4 on a 4.0 scale. Shay is the son of Dr. and Mrs. Robert J. Shay, of Martinez.
