Ex-POW speaks

Barry Bridger, a retired Air Force officer who spent six years as a prisoner of war in Vietnam, will discuss his experience at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at the Gordon Club at Fort Gordon. Transplant fund

A fundraising concert for Wilhemenia Luke Freeman, featuring the Swaneee Quintet and other guest choirs, will be held at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Gospel Water Branch Baptist Church, 703 Furys Ferry Road, in Evans. Proceeds will help cover the costs of a kidney transplant for Freeman. For information, call (706) 860-7091.

Vendors needed

Free oil changes

Members of Mosaic United Methodist Church will perform free oil changes from 1-4 p.m. Sunday for single mothers and the wives of deployed service men. The event will take place in the parking lot of the church, at 478 Columbia Industrial Blvd., in Evans, just off Evans to Locks Road. Absentee voting

Early absentee voting for Columbia County's July 18 primary election is now available at the Board of Elections office, 630 Ronald Reagan Drive, Building B, in Evans, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays. Call (706) 868-3355.

Mobile testing

The Breast Health Center mobile mammography unit will be at the Columbia County Health Department in Evans on Friday and on Aug. 17, Oct. 19 and Dec. 21. Appointments are required, and can be made by calling (706) 868-3330.

The funeral wreath of Grovetown's famed poet now rests at the city's museum.
