Writers meet

Library classes

A book discussion by Joseph B. Williams, author of Land We Lived, a book about blacks in antebellum Columbia County, will be held at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday. A class on anime and manga art will be held at 11 a.m. June 29 at the Columbia County Library in Evans.

Ex-POW speaks

Barry Bridger, a retired Air Force officer who spent six years as a prisoner of war in Vietnam, will discuss his experience at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at the Gordon Club at Fort Gordon. Cost for the luncheon is $15, or $10 for active-duty military or MTSS card.

Transplant fundraiser

A fundraising concert for Wilhemena Luke Freeman, featuring the Swaneee Quintet and other guest choirs, will be held at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Gospel Water Branch Baptist Church, 703 Furys Ferry Road, in Evans.

All proceeds will help cover the costs of a kidney transplant for Freeman. For information, call (706) 860-7091.

Mobile mammograms

The Breast Health Center Mobile Mammography Unit will be at the Columbia County Health Department in Evans on Friday and on Aug. 17, Oct. 19 and Dec. 21. Appointments are required, and can be made by calling (706) 868-3330.
