Augusta Christian junior Josh Whitaker has likely already filled up a few trophy cases, but the honors continue to pour in for the talented athlete.
Whitaker has played a key role in Augusta Christian's state championship in football and its back-to-back crowns in baseball. Individually he is a three-sport all-county performer (football, basketball, and baseball). He has also been selected to the South Carolina Independent Schools Association All-State squads in three sports.
All this for a young man who still has his senior season to go.
Now the 6-2, 215-pound shortstop/pitcher has picked up his biggest individual honor. Whitaker has been named the SCISA AAA State Player of the Year.
Despite playing through some nagging injuries this season, Whitaker managed to hit .507 with 10 home runs and 44 RBI this year. On the mound, Whitaker helped the Lions get over the loss of Nolan Belcher, going 3-0 with a 2.68 ERA.
Congratulations to Josh for earning this well-deserved honor.
