As reported 40 years ago in the pages of The Columbia News, Thursday, Feb. 24, 1966:

Caldwell Miss EHS

Polly Ann Caldwell, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Caldwell, of Martinez, was crowned queen of the second annual Miss Evans High School beauty pageant at the Evans High School auditorium.

First runner-up was Ginger Vernon. Second runner-up was Kay Rhodes. Other finalists were Brenda Gardner and Debbie Bright.

Master of ceremonies Bob Beckum of Augusta introduced each of the contestants to the panel of judges and to the audience.

Beauty pageant finalists named

Preliminary judging for the Miss Columbia County Beauty Pageant was held last Saturday night at Martinez Elementary School. Eight girls were selected as finalists for the March 19 event.

The finalists are Elaine Tankersley, Margaret Ann Reynolds, Beryl Kay Bennett, Annette Teasley, Barbara Clark, Freda Elizabeth Corley, Brenda Gardner and Alice Ann Smith.
