The Columbia County Emergency Management Agency is looking to fill four positions on its Dive Rescue and Recovery Team.
The dive team, a volunteer force of 30 certified SCUBA divers, participates in search, rescue and recovery efforts for missing persons and evidence. The team also provides water safety protection at public events held on county waters such as Clarks Hill Lake, said EMA director Pam Tucker.
"We want to always maintain a file of standby (divers)," Tucker said. "People move away, that's what's happened now and that's why we've got these openings."
Tucker said there might be as many as two additional openings in the near future and it is important the county EMA fill these positions.
Divers must provide their own equipment and only divers certified by a recognized SCUBA agency are eligible for consideration, Tucker said. Prior law enforcement or emergency service experience is not required, she said.
Dive team officers will provide monthly training on search, rescue and recovery techniques, and selected volunteers will be cleared with county risk management to operate county boats and search equipment, Tucker said.
