The Feb. 12 News-Times story by Valerie Rowell, "Deputy has seen 40 years on the job," was a wonderful story about a wonderful person. It touched only the tip of the iceberg.

Walker Marshall spent countless hours as a recreation coach and mentor to the athletes of Columbia County. One of his greatest trademarks was his saying, "Come on, boy; nobody beats you!" He was a key factor in helping to create the baseball tradition of Columbia County. I think of him often, and sincerely miss him and his family.
