Editor:
I hope this letter will inspire every minority in the state of Georgia to not walk but run to the polls on election day. I see where the Georgia War Veterans Nursing Home is having problems paying their bills in caring for the veterans housed in that facility. Now, we know the Republicans are in charge of everything, not only in Georgia but in Washington, D.C. as well.
Because the Republicans are red, white and blue, don't they care about these old sick veterans in this nursing home? (The Georgia Legislature) authorized $500,000 for voter identification cards so, as Gov. Sonny Perdue was quoted as saying, "no one can pull a utility bill out of the trash can and cast a ballot." But only $150,000 for these sick old veterans at the Georgia War Veterans Nursing Home.
Speaking of old, let me put this in perspective. When I and the men of the 8th Army were fighting for our lives in South Korea in 1950, George W. Bush was 4 years old. I saw a dead American soldier from the 24th Regiment lying in the road on Sept. 1.
The soldiers of the 24th Regiment, 25th Division were all black. It was 1950, not 1964 or 2006. So, I ask, what were Perdue, Jim Whitehead, Ben Harbin, Barry Fleming and Sue Burmeister - who, in my opinion, is a hard-core racist - doing on Sept. 1 when the life of that black soldier was blown from his mortal body?
I am going to assume they were born free and living free. I assure you it's not a mystery as to why or how.
