Shops make Valentine's easier for couples

The fast and imminent approach of Valentine's Day is sending men and women hunting for the perfect way to show their sweethearts how much they care.

When it comes to men, though, they might find it particularly hard when looking for a departure from the basic flowers-candy combination.

For those men, Stacey Deas, the owner of the recently opened It's Your Secret Lingerie Boutique in Eagle Pointe shopping center in Evans, says she has the answer to their quandary.

Deas said she is expecting the first Valentine's Day for her store, which opened in November, to be a busy one helping the many men who will be shopping for the women in their lives.

"A lot of them come in lost. They have no clue. No clue on size, what to buy," Deas said. "Usually, men want to buy black and silky items. But for the most part, they say that, but they know what their woman wears and what they like. So they do end up getting stuff that those women like."

Deas said a registry, which logs women's sizes and preferences, makes shopping easier for men.

The shop carries all kinds of intimate apparel from pajamas, including the Oprah-touted Night Sweats line, to sexier lace and silky lingerie. Deas also offers a variety of bath and body products including scented, and even flavored, bubble bath and body lotions, oils and paints.

While many men will be looking for that special gift, a group of women have found their own way to treat the men in their lives by taking a sensual dance class in Columbia County.

On Jan. 28, 10 women gathered at a Martinez personal training studio for a workshop on sensual dancing, said Jewel Joseph, the owner of the WHET studio off Belair Road.

"A lot of them were first-timers," Joseph said of those who attended the workshop, adding that many of them knew about the studio's offerings, but wanted to wait for a special occasion to take the class.

Joseph is a personal trainer who formerly taught Sexercise in New York. After similar sensual workouts were featured on Oprah's talk show, she decided to open her studio in October.

"It's a fabulous physical workout. It really is," Joseph said of the classes, private lessons or parties that are available to the public. The classes range from teaching sensual dance concepts and finding your own "sexy," to "working" the floor, wall, pole and props.

The main thing women get from the classes is self-confidence, Joseph said.

Some of the women, who were shy in the beginning of the workshop, ended up planning a surprise evening.

"They were planning when they were going to be able to practice because he wasn't going to be in the house," Joseph said. "When the birthdays and the anniversaries and the Valentine's Day come up, and of course the brides, they have a special wedding night workshop, that is perfect for a unique gift for their men.''
