Columbia County's rapid growth is outpacing its ability to handle traffic

Posted: Wednesday, February 01, 2006

Editor:

Wouldn't it be a miracle if Columbia County's Growth Management Plan included a helicopter for everyone to get out of their driveways or get onto the main road? All we are getting in Columbia County is traffic and more traffic.

What about the traffic light at Gibbs and Washington roads? Last February, state Sen. Jim Whitehead said it was coming; true, he did not say what year, but there are no visible signs of a light.

We moved from Martinez to Evans to get away from the traffic, but it has gotten ridiculous. Belair Road is a disaster. After investing thousands in our home we were let down; it seems only a helicopter would help the situation.

I, along with many friends, feel things should slow down. Let's breathe some fresh air for a change. Growth is good, but at what price?
