Building a championship
Walter Newman of Grovetown recently won the award as National Late Model Sportsman Series Chassis Builder of 2005. His 621 points gave him the advantage over the second-place finisher by 93 points. Newman will be honored at the National Late Model Sportsman Series 2005 banquet to be held Saturday at Daytona Super Speedway in Daytona Beach, Fla.
Harlem girls poised for the playoffs
With a 55-44 win over Cross Creek on Saturday, the Harlem Lady Bulldogs have already matched their 11-win total from last season. The Harlem girls sport an 11-4 overall record and are 3-2 in region play. Senior guard April Woodard netted 26 points in a region win that saw 56 free-throw attempts.
Lady Lions earn respect in SCISA
With an 8-3 record entering the week, the Augusta Christian girl's basketball team has earned a No. 7 ranking in the South Carolina Independent Schools Association Top 10 Poll. The ranking comes after an upset win over then-SCISA No. 5 Thomas Sumter in December. Senior Jordan Little leads the Lady Lions with 15.8 points per game.
