I am writing to express sincere appreciation and pride in the Evans High School Marching Band.

My wife and I had the pleasure of accompanying the band on their recent trip to London to march in the New Year's Day Parade. The Evans students were tremendous ambassadors for EHS, Columbia County, the Augusta area, and for the USA!

They performed beautifully in the parade and were featured on a Reuters News Service video clip seen worldwide. Band Director Reid Hall, Assistant Band Director Geoffrey Rosche, assistant director, and all of the faculty, staff and band boosters who traveled with the band are to be commended for their precision planning and coordination.

The nearly 225-member group navigated domestic and international flights with relative ease and visited numerous historic sites in London and throughout the British countryside. I was exceedingly proud of our young students and the manner in which they conducted themselves. The adults and parents who accompanied the band are to be commended for their dedication to serving the students during this once-in-a-lifetime experience.

In a time when bad news and teenage misconduct dominates the headlines, I find it heartwarming and highly encouraging to witness such fine behavior from our community's current and future leaders.

Congratulations, Marching Knights, on your noteworthy accomplishments!
