In the last paragraph of U.S. Sen. Saxby Chambliss' Nov. 9 guest column, "Giving honor to America's veterans," he says: "Lastly, let me once again say thank you from the bottom of my heart to all of America's veterans. It's because of you that our children and grandchildren will live in a safe and secure America. Thank you." Ooh, ain't he sweet!
It sounds like Chambliss is sucking up, to me. I have a problem with the man I refer to as "bad knees patriot Chambliss." ... Can Chambliss walk? If so, is it with or without a limp?
During the Vietnam War, Chambliss was called before the draft board not once, but twice, and both times was rejected for induction into the military because he had bad knees.
Now, bad knees don't heal themselves. In fact, over time they continue to get worse until medical intervention or knee replacement surgery. Has Chambliss had his God-made knees (that were bad enough to keep him out of the Vietnam War) replaced with man-made knees? If so, when? ...
Surely you remember our Vietnam War-coward president saying he needed Chambliss in the Senate to help him fight terrorism. It's laughable how these yellow Republicans can fight like hell in an air-conditioned office in Washington, D.C., but when it comes to going to a battlefield that runs red with blood, they are physically unfit to serve, or they somehow get into the 1960s National Guard and never leave the states. ...
I do not wear an American flag pin in my lapel to show my love for my country. What I do to show respect for my fellow soldier and this country I love, the land of the free, home of the brave, is write letters about yellow cowards who send other Americans off to fight, bleed and die.
