Ashley Smith speaks for Hope
Hope Christian Schools will hold their inaugural fundraising banquet at 7 p.m. Thursday at Savannah Rapids Pavilion, featuring Ashley Smith, who was taken hostage after the Atlanta courthouse shootings and who wrote Unlikely Angel. For information, call 863-8322.
Pets with Santa
Photos with Santa will be available from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Superpetz on Bobby Jones Expressway, with donations benefiting Happy Tails Rescue.
Christmas cantata
The adult choir of Powell Baptist Church will hold its Christmas cantata, The Gift Goes On, at 6 p.m. Sunday. The church is at 1577 Old Appling-Harlem Highway in Harlem. Call 556-3771.
Choral concert
The Columbia County Choral Society will perform O Magnum Mysterium, a concert of sacred, traditional and contemporary Christmas music, at 7:30 p.m. Friday at First Baptist Church of Evans, at Belair and Washington roads. Tickets are $10 for students/seniors, and $15 for general admission. Tickets are available from society members and will also be available at the concert.Call 650-2311.

In an article Sunday, Dec. 11, the incorrect date was provided for Hope Christian School's fundraising banquet with Ashley Smith as speaker. The banquet will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday. The News-Times regrets the error.
Help decorate our tree!
The Columbia County News-Times office has a Christmas tree in the lobby, but we need ornaments. We're looking for photos - wallet-size school pictures are fine - of smiling Columbia County children to decorate our tree. We'll also publish the photos as ornaments on a printed "tree" in our Christmas Day issue, and one child will be chosen to be the "star" of the tree.
