As reported 25 years ago in the pages of The Columbia News and The Martinez-Evans Times, Wednesday, Dec. 3, 1980:

Girl wins bike

Beth Marie Sarafin, 8-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Sarafin of Martinez, recently won a 10-speed Schwinn Varsity bicycle in a nationwide contest sponsored by Kellog.

A third-grader at Westmont Elementary School, Beth Marie drew a poster of "Toucan Sam," picturing the character sitting up in a tree eating a balanced breakfast. The entry in the "Stick Up for Breakfast" contest was drawn with colored ink pens.

Her prize was provided by McElmurray's on Davis Road.

Library needs funds

The Columbia County Gibbs Memorial Library Building Fund is seeking donations.

The current level of donations stands at $8,076.50.
