Lacking fire hydrants, rural areas still have inadequate fire protection

Those of us who refused to pay for inadequate fire coverage in the Winfield area are now proud and happy to be serviced by a county-wide program.

I quickly notified my insurance company of this development, but they, to my chagrin, only seemed interested in the distance of my property from the nearest fire hydrant.

When I mentioned that my property was more than five miles from the nearest hydrant, I was informed that I did not have adequate fire coverage. After investigating the fire coverage rate that had been assessed on my property tax bill, I found out that I pay the same rate as those with adequate coverage.

Seems the county agrees with The News-Times - make them pay whether you can provide adequate coverage or not.
