Running provides schools big finishes

With the 2005 cross country season concluded, it's time for a quick recap.

Greenbrier remained on top among public schools. The girls finished fifth in the Georgia High School Association AAAA State Meet, while the boys team ran to a 16th-place finish.

Bridget Lyons, a Greenbrier senior, ran to an individual finish of third place at state.

In the private-school realm, Augusta Prep's boys and girls squads finished in the top five at the Georgia Independent Schools Association AAA State Meet, with Jim Hull placing fifth individually with a time of 17:26. The time is a school record for an Augusta Prep freshman.

That brings us to this year's Columbia County News-Times All-County Teams.

Selections were made after discussions with coaches and reviewing results from several meets, with emphasis on the postseason. All cross country athletes from the six Columbia County high schools were eligible.
